CARRERA UNIFIED FORMULATION
Refined one-, two- and three-dimensional models can be derived using a compact, unified formulation.
COMPOSITES
Advanced structural models are able to predict complex stress field, a step forward in the composite materials analysis
MULTIFIELD ANALYSIS
Fully-coupled multifield analyses including: piezoelectric and magnetostrictive materials, thermal and moisture effetcs
AEROELASTICITY AND FLUID-STRUCTURE INTERACTION
Development of advanced aeroelastic models for static and dynamic aeroelastic analyses of wings, panels and rotating blades
AIRCRAFT AND SPACECRAFT DESIGN
Refined structural moldes for the analysis of complex structures
ROTOR-DYNAMICS
Refined one-dimensional models can be a valuable alternative to three-dimensional models in the analysis of rotating blades, discs and shafts
BIOMECHANICS
Refined computational models, based on CUF, have been used in the solution of classical bio-mechanical problems
DISSEMINATION
Our work can be found in hundreds of scientific papers and in many books
BEST THEORY DIAGRAMS
The BTD is a tool to edit an arbitrarily given theory to get a lower number of terms for a given error or to increase the accuracy while keeping the computational costs constant.

Piero Chiaia is a PhD student at the Polytechnic University of Turin. In July 2020, he earned with honours the Bachelor in Mechanical Engineering at Polytechnic University of Bari, discussing a thesis in Fluid Dynamics entitled "Numerical simulation of shock wave-boundary layer interaction in supersonic flows". In October 2022, he got with honours the Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering at Polytechnic University of Bari, discussing a thesis on Fluid-structure Interaction and Multi-field problems entitled "Advanced finite elements for the large displacement (and large strains) analysis of materials and structures". In November 2022, he started a PhD program in Mechanical Engineering at the Polytechnic University of Turin in collaboration with the MUL2 research group under the supervision of prof. Alfonso Pagani and prof. Maria Cinefra (DMMM – Polytechnic University of Bari). His research project is focused on the implementation of CUF-refined models for hyperelasticity, large strains analysis, multi-physics problems involving soft materials and fluid-structure interaction applications.
